Height: 6 foot 5
Weight: 260 pounds
From: Calgary, Alberta,
CanadaSignature Move: Running Powerslam
WWE Debut: Oct. 22, 2007

With a father like the “British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith and a grandfather and uncle like Stu Hart and Bret “Hit Man” Hart, DH Smith has a wrestling lineage second to none. He grew up in sports-entertainment, idolizing his father and uncles Bruce, Bret, Owen and Jim “The Anvil” Hart, among other members of the Calgary, Alberta, Canada’s first family. Now, after years of training, DH is ready to carry on his family’s rich legacy.

Smith uses the initials “DH” in tribute to his relatives. But that’s not the only way he pays homage to his heritage. Like his father, he chooses to have “Rule, Britannia” blare every time he enters the squared circle. Sometimes watching DH can be like watching a Bulldog highlight reel. He shares his dad’s unique blend of power, grace and agility. And he brings the kind of grit, determination and dedication to excellence that is a Hart family hallmark. DH also uses his father's famed running powerslam to finish off opponents.

Indeed, it’s difficult not to see Davey Boy Smith when watching DH. But DH is his own man and determined to write a new chapter in his family’s novel of greatness in the sport of kings. The British Bulldog’s pup has bite and represents a new generation of Harts in WWE. And somewhere up in the squared circle in the sky, Davey Boy, Stu and Owen are looking down on DH and smiling with approval.

DH Smith proves doubters wrong.
October 26th, 2007

This past Monday, a conversation between two Superstars was in progress regarding DH Smith and his victory over Carlito in England.

“It could have been a fluke,” noted one Superstar. “They were in his father’s ('British Bulldog' Davey Boy Smith) backyard; the crowd could have carried him.”

The other Superstar took a sip of his coffee, raised his eyebrows and added, “Tonight will be the true test for the kid; he’s going on live television in front of millions. It will be his first official match as a Raw Superstar, and his performance will really show whether he belongs here.”

The conversation faded, and the two Superstars went their separate ways. Later that evening, DH Smith exceeded the expectations of those same two Superstars who had seemingly doubted the third-generation grappler. Smith defeated Carlito for the three-count, using a familiar running powerslam — the same move his father was known for.

“Carlito was a tough opponent for me tonight,” panted Smith, moments after his victory. “But I knew he would stay down after that powerslam.”

When WWE.com questioned Smith about the origins of the letters “DH,” he would only reveal that it is in honor of his family, asking politely that no further questions involving his name be asked.

It was hard to get comments from Smith, not because he didn’t want to talk about his match, but because so many veteran Superstars wanted to shake his hand and talk with him about his first Raw victory. Humbled, Smith was all smiles and nearly speechless by the display of solidarity.

“I have to say that having the crowd and some of the Superstars behind me tonight felt excellent,” he said. “I’ve worked so hard to get here. So far, in England and now in the States, the fans have been behind me. I’m hoping the worldwide fans will back me, too. I want to keep this up and prove that I’m capable of one day becoming a champion in this business.”

When WWE.com sought Carlito for comments about DH, only verbal threats and what might have been foreign curse words were returned. Smith said he’s fine with Carlito being a sore loser, and that he’s not worried about what Carlito has to say, anyway.

“I just need to focus on getting better every time I get into the ring,” Smith said. “I need to continue this roll; I can’t worry about what Carlito thinks of me beating him.”

As Smith slowly made his way into the locker room, two Superstars with steam emitting from their coffees mirrored Smith’s smile. In another quiet, “off the record” conversation, the two admitted that the discussion they had earlier that afternoon was, in fact, incorrect.

“I have to give the kid props,” said the former champion. “Even with all the pressure he’s had to face, he sucked it up and went out there to compete tonight. I can admit when I’m wrong, and I was wrong about DH Smith.”

D.H. Smith is standing In the ring with a microphone in hand. He says he is proud to be the son of The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith and tonight he is dedicating his first match on Raw to his father. Out comes Carlito and the match gets underway. King and JR put over D.H. smith, but King wonders if he has put added pressure on himself by saying he is dedicating this match to his father. Locking up with Carlito, D.H. uses several European style counters. Carlito grabs control of the match over smith and tries several near falls but they fail to capture the W for Carlito.

Carlito slams Smith down and goes for a cover but Smiths shoulders are up. Carlito gets into an argument with the Ref and Smith is back to his feet. Carlito quickly realizes and whips Smith into the corner but Smith reverses and Carlito jumps up, Smith too smart catches Carlito on his shoulder and hits him with a Running Powerslam for the win.

An emotional night for Bulldog's boy
October 18th, 2007

UNITED KINGDOM – Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena (NIA) was virtually empty on a damp, chilly Monday morning. The only people that scurried around the concrete arena floor were stage hands carefully placing chairs, sweeping and prepping for a sold-out edition of Monday Night Raw.

Harry Smith, knowing he would be stepping into the ring under intense scrutiny from our fans, Superstars, family and friends, admitted he was anxious as he watched the uneventful happenings of the morning unfold.

“I’m actually quite nervous,” he said, tapping his fingers lightly against his bulky thighs. “Believe it or not, I had goose bumps on the plane ride over here; England is my father’s home country, and I’m dedicating my match against Carlito to him. I want to do my father’s legacy proud tonight.”

Harry’s father, the late British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith, was the major inspiration for Smith pursuing a career in sports-entertainment. With the Bulldog’s untimely death in 2002, Harry had trouble coping with the loss and contemplated whether or not to continue. Now, years later, it is his time to take center stage in front of a live audience, and his performance could set the stage for the way he’s perceived by members of the WWE locker room for years to come.

When asked about the difference between the Harry Smith of today versus a year ago, when WWE.com first interviewed the 20-year-old (story), without hesitation he explained the change in him as a person. It has been this change that has prepared him for his first major obstacle.

“My mentality and the way I approach wrestling has changed since our last interview,” he said. “I have more confidence in myself in terms of wrestling capabilities; I’ve been hitting the gym more, working on my mat skills more and I’ve also gained the confidence to speak openly about my father in public, whereas before that was something I may have not been able to do. I feel as if it held me back in a way.”

With four hours left before the doors of the NIA open to the public, for Smith, there is no going back. Being reminded that a packed crowd at the NIA would be roaring in appreciation for the Bulldog as well as Harry didn’t help matters any. The tapping on the thighs started again, and a slow fidget began to occur as he spoke.

“It’s not that I’m afraid of anything; I’m ready for tonight,” he said with confidence.

“I’d like to win tonight – obviously that’s the goal when someone competes – but if I don’t, I hope the fans see the effort I’m going to give them, and for my father, all I have to give,” he said. “I’d like to gain the respect of our fans, and that would mean a lot since I’m wrestling in my dad’s hometown.”

With that, Smith politely excused himself from the interview to go prepare. What he did from there wasn’t documented, as WWE.com respected his wishes, and allowed him to get into the “zone” in peace.

Later that evening, after a raucous applause and the dedication of the match to his father, Smith did what his opponent, Carlito, never expected – he won. Using the running powerslam, a move the Bulldog used to punish his opponents, Harry covered the Caribbean loudmouth for the three-count.

Having completed what he set out to do, Smith later told WWE.com he could rest easy that night knowing his best efforts would have made his father proud. Drenched with sweat, inflamed with bruises from his match and still trying to catch his breath, Harry’s smile was inerasable as he slowly made his way to the locker room area to shower and celebrate his victory with his family and friends later that evening.
